MUVE promotes enjoyment of music, creativity, exercise, community, and physical and emotional well-being. It is fun for children, safe for seniors, and refreshing for adults. MUVE is a spontaneous, non-choreographed style of dance.

Three Basic MUVES are the foundation of endless variations of dance movements. A MUSE leads with various motions. The other dancers follow “loosely,” tailoring their movements to fit their ability, energy level, and creative spirit. MUVE DVDs feature colorful animated graphics which add excitement, instruction and boost motivation.

    The MUVE Method empowers people to dance.

    The MUVE Method teaches 10 Principles. They explain the philosophical roots of MUVE and the mindset of a MUVE dancer.

    MUVE does not require choreography. One cannot do it incorrectly. You learn to MUVE by dancing along to a lead dancer, called the “MUSE.” The MUSE creates easy to follow movements, based on a system of three very “basic” MUVES.

    The three basic movements of MUVE dancing are WALK, TAP and ROOT. These “Basic MUVES” are the elementary building blocks of any dance.

    MUVE dance videos use graphic icons to display these Basic MUVES on the bottom corner of the screen continually. This informs the student dancer, which of the Basic MUVES is being danced by the MUSE at any given moment.

    Other instructions and reminders are communicated by colorful animated graphics. This keeps the sound track free of verbal cues, for the pure enjoyment of the music.

    Because a MUVE dance is always created spontaneously, one cannot follow along precisely. MUVE dancers follow loosely. You are also encouraged to follow your own creative spirit at any time.

    I like it that it is so unpressured, that everyone is part of the group while at the same time free to be "different." I can muve at my own pace and not feel anything but encouragement to do so.     ... A whole new dimension to myself opened up from day one and I've been hooked ever since. For some reason my idea of dance has been having to learn a series of structured moves set to various musical rhythms...  What I discovered through MUVE was that the body has an innate responsiveness to music ... As a matter of fact, the body is designed to dance! Every joint, ligament, and tendon wants to move when the mind just relaxes and forgets itself....The key is to just allow yourself to surrender to the moment and let go of any self consciousness or social conditioning. Like Mark Twain said, "Dance like nobody's watching, love like it's never going to hurt." So to live a balanced life, Yin needs Yang. Sitting still is a very powerful tool to awaken consciousness and insight into the ways of the mind.     I'm not a good dancer and am not very flexible. However these dance sessions are so upbeat and energizing that I feel great the moment the music begins. The other people also seem to be enjoying it so much that it is a contagious good mood!
    Even after an exhausting and frustrating day at work, when I pop in the video, the music starts and the mood infuses the room like a smile. Maggie has great taste in music. Muve is great.

    I have always loved to dance. Who doesn't? But as we grow older and busier, we forget some of the things we love, in oder to get done the "lists of life,”going to school, raising a family and engaging in (hopefully) meaningful working. Three years ago I found myself engaged on all those activities - work, school and raising a family. I knew I needed to find something for myself - and saw Maggie's ad. Why not I said, I have always loved to dance. Not only did I find that the session gave me the personal space I needed to do something for me, but it renewed my love of dance, music and movement.

    About Maggie, the creator of MUVE

    MUVE means “music & movement” and it all started because music is what moves Maggie. Growing up in a tiny farming community with no access to dance lessons, she forged a close bond with the radio and turned the living room into her dance space.  She has been singing and dancing to the music ever since.  She says, “My body and voice are my instruments.  How could I just listen when I could sing and dance along?  I’ll be forever grateful that nobody stopped me or laid down heavy rules”.

    Maggie’s dancing is always spontaneous -- inspired in the present moment, and always an expression of the free and joyful spirit she is.  Dancing is her passion and her art, and with the production of her dance/exercise videos, she is realizing her most cherished dream.  Maggie’s mission is to inspire everyone to feel the joy of moving their bodies to the rhythm of the music, getting the physical exercise the body needs, while freeing the mind and feeding the soul.

    Maggie has had a distinguished career as designer and art-director, and her expertise has been put to use on her DVDs.  She designed an all visual guidance system and animated graphics that appear on the screen over and around the dancers, giving ideas and instructions.  Maggie inherited her love of music from her mother, Anna Burghardt, who was a vocalist and music teacher in rural Germany.  Sharing her gifts with her family and community was Anna’s greatest joy, and Maggie is carrying on that tradition in sharing her love of music and dance with her students and now with the world at large through her new video productions.

    Maggie’s mother also gave Maggie an ear for great music.  Maggie has gathered a great breadth and variety of captivating rhythms to inspire dance.  Leanne, a student and fan, says “Getting to hear the great treasure of music that Maggie has put together would be worth it, in itself, even if I didn’t adore dancing along.”

    Living in Hawaii since 1993, Maggie has been a great fan of the local music.  Her newly produced dance/exercise videos draws mainly from Hawaii artists, and she’s excited to be able introduce this music to many new listeners worldwide.  For anyone who would like to dance with Maggie in person, there are three ongoing weekly MUVE session to join at anytime.
