How does the MUVE Method work?

You learn to MUVE by dancing along to a lead dancer called the “Muse.” The Muse creates easy to follow movements, based on a system of 3 “basic” MUVES, the elementary building blocks of dance.

MUVE dance videos use graphic signs, called icons to display the Basic MUVES continually. This shows which MUVE is being danced and signals when the Muse changes the Basic MUVE.

Because a MUVE dance is always created spontaneously, following along precisely it difficult and not necessary. MUVE dancers follow loosely. Students are provided with ideas and concepts, with no need to be exact or perfect. They are also encouraged to follow their own creative spirit at any time.

What is a MUSE?

Leading by example, a Muse presents movements ideas. She/he repeats motions long enough for others to recognize the basic concepts and catch on. You learn to become a “better” Muse by practice and experience. Better in this context means “easier to follow” and “more effective” as an inspiration to others.

Anyone can be a Muse. As soon as you inspire another person to dance, you have become a Muse. As more people step up to lead, the dance becomes more exciting and entertaining. See details on MUVE Dancing Games at the MUVE video blog

When a couple dances MUVE, partners switch lead by individual arrangement. In a “group-dance” the Muse leads the dancers in the common dance.

What are the 3 Basic MUVES for?

Many people believe that they cannot dance because they do not know a step combination. The 3 Basic MUVES dispel this belief and empower people to dance without choreography.

A complex dance becomes transparent when broken down into its basic elements. The 3 basic MUVES help you recognize these basic elements. Practicing the 3 Basic MUVES and their variations improves your dancing skills and your confidence. They also provide a link of communication between the Muse and the following dancers to make communal dance harmonious and enjoyable for all.

The 3 Basic MUVES also assist the Solo-dancer and the Muse creatively. They are the springboards for exploration, with an unlimited amount of variations and combinations for each Basic MUVE.

How is MUVE different from other dance or exercise methods?

Most traditional dances are heavily choreographed. MUVE dances are created in the moment. Any and all MUVES are okay as long as they feel good. MUVE dancing is easy and you can’t do it wrong.

Because MUVE-dancing is spontaneous, anyone can to join in immediately. You don’t need to find a partner or worry about keeping in step with the group. You can follow the MUSE or make up your own dance. It doesn’t matter how it looks, only how it feels.

You make the rules as you listen to your body and adjust your movements to feel good. You can do a mellow dance or create a high velocity aerobic workout at any given moment. Take bigger steps to challenge yourself, and slow down any time you want.

Different generations and fitness levels can MUVE together. Because you follow loosely or even create your own dance, your movements are always new and never boring.
